President Donald Trump continues to deploy tariffs, with the latest being against Canada, despite setbacks from the Supreme Court's decision striking down the president's
Trump justified sweeping tariffs, citing the economic boon they would provide, but one nonprofit estimates they have cost states billions, with California paying the most.
The National Taxpayers Union Foundation analyzed datafrom the U.S. Census Bureau and national and state-level trade data to estimate the cost of the tariffs for each state.
The nonprofit looks at data on executive tariffs, or those implemented by presidential action, and updates the estimates quarterly.

How much has California lost from Trump's tariffs?
California has lost about $63 billion, according to estimates from the
National Taxpayers Union Foundation Tariff tracker. The state lost the most by far, with Texas second at an estimated $37 billion, followed by Michigan at $23 billion.
The tracker also estimates that the tariffs cost California households around $4,552 each.
The nonprofit estimates that about 45% of the estimate fell on raw materials, parts, and equipment manufacturers buying in the state.
Cars and trucks were the hardest-hit category, with an estimated $7 billion in extra tariffs paid; clothes and shoes at $5.1 billion; batteries and cables at $4.1 billion; and food and beverage at $3.5 billion.
