Before desert rock and the Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival, Palm Springs attracted music industry legends who came for leisure and performed in the nightclubs and in the Plaza Theatre.
As part of Modernism Week ― October, Plaza Theatre Foundation Board member Jim Cook will present the talk "Palm Springs, Tuned In: A Historic Retrospective On Music in the Coachella Valley" on Thursday, Oct. 15 at The Plaza Theatre in downtown Palm Springs.

Cook will discuss how music and musicians helped shape the development of Palm Springs, and one of the stories he will include is the surprising origin of the Eden Ahbez song "Nature Boy" about William
Pester, a man who lived in the canyons in a hut.
Watch our video above to learn more about the Plaza's place in local — and nationwide — music history.
