As a PO Box holder at the La Quinta Cove Post Office, I was shocked to learn via The Desert Sun that the location would be closing.
There has been no information from the post office or any other official source.
I am sorely disappointed in the “Planning” Commission’s efforts to inform or include the public. It almost seems like they wanted to sneak this through, given that the demolition of the Cove post office was not directly on the agenda.
Also to consider:
- Will PO Boxes actually move? Or will the owner have to acquire a new one?
- Will the ZIP code be the same? What will become of the 92247 ZIP code?
- What is the timeframe? I’ve heard the end of November. But, again, nothing official.
- How and when will we learn officially what is to happen?
Since my job has me traveling frequently, a PO Box is the best solution so deliveries do not melt in a normal mailbox in summer. The Cove location is particularly useful to the residents of the, oh yes, La Quinta Cove. Also, it would be truly disruptive to have to change my address after
nearly 20 years.
Big changes like this require planning, communication, consideration and a defined time frame, none of which seem to be present.

Trump can’t blame Biden anymore
President Donald Trump is always using former President Joe Biden as his go-to reason for everything going wrong in Trump’s administration. Biden is long gone, and after almost two years with Trump, everything going wrong is because of Trump.
Trump bragged that he would improve Biden’s economy; instead he made it worse. He pledged to lower inflation and enrich American’s lives through his trade-war-inducing tariffs; instead, everything from groceries to gasoline isn’t cheaper.
Trump lied about his mass deportation, and instead of deporting drug dealers and murders is deporting legal U.S. residents. Trump even lied about his foreign policy, promising to end Russia’s war in Ukraine — that didn’t happen.
And let’s not forget he promised to stop the never-ending wars, yet now we are seven months into an unpopular war with Iran.
Trump has two simple tactics with promises he failed to keep: deny the failure or stomp away, blaming anyone but himself and always projecting the blame on Biden and previous Democratic administrations. So, while Trump keeps aggrandizing himself, his popularity is shrinking, and new polls are showing that Americans aren’t buying Trump’s favorite excuse: blaming his predecessor.
