A driver died early Friday, Sept. 25, after a car crashed and caught fire on Highway 111 in Indian Wells, according to the Riverside County Sheriff's Office.
Deputies responding around 2:05 a.m. Sept. 25 to Highway 111 and Desert Horizons Drive found the vehicle "fully engulfed in flames," Sgt. Chris Loucks said in a news release.
The driver, the vehicle's only occupant, died at the scene. Their identity is being withheld pending notification of next of kin.
It's not clear what caused the crash.
Highway 111 was temporarily closed between Cook Street and Eldorado Drive, but the highway has since reopened.
