All but one Coachella Valley eatery passed their Riverside County health inspections this past week, according to reports.
Legends & Icons in Palm Desert scored a "C" grade on their latest inspection due to a number of major violations, including improper food holding temperatures, black accumulation on an ice machine and selling an unapproved cake to patrons. The facility will be revisited and inspected in the coming days.
Here are the restaurants that were inspected in the Coachella Valley Oct. 9 through 15:
'C' grade
Legends & Icons, 78-152 Varner Road, Palm Desert
- Inspection and complaint investigation conducted Oct. 14
- Major violation: Improper hot and cold food holding temperatures (dressing, cooked red pepper jam, chicken salad, tuna salad, raw shrimp, sliced tomatoes, etc. out of temperature)
- Major violation: Observed heavy black accumulation on the water reservoir/deflector shield of the ice machine at the bar area
- Major violation: Observed "Sissy's rum cake" to be obtained from an unapproved source and available for sale. Person in charge voluntarily discarded the cake and said the unapproved item would be removed from the menu. Ensure all food for sale is obtained from an approved source
- Minor violations: employee wiped hands on personal aprons and then proceeded to put on gloves without washing their hands, and two employees put on gloves without washing their hands first; hand sink adjacent to the cook line was blocked by a bag of wiping cloths; lack of food separation and possible contamination (uncovered food item containers inside coolers; open can of pineapple juice; ice build-up inside walk-in freezer had condensation dripping on prepacked food items); and others
- "C" grade posted and a reinspection date has been set
