Some homes in the Shallotte area of Brunswick County are being evacuated because of a forest fire, according to the Brunswick County Sheriff's Office.
The alert says that residents in the Lakewood Estates area off of Ocean Isle Beach Road are being evacuated. It was not immediately clear how many homes were being impacted.
"Residents in the affected area should follow all instructions from emergency personnel and evacuate immediately when directed," the sheriff's office said around 6 p.m. Oct. 1.

Others are urged to avoid the area so first responders can safely work. The sheriff's office said it would provide another advisory
when it was safe to return.
