Perhaps the most famous frank on wheels is coming back to the Wilmington area.
The Oscar Mayer Wienermobile is set to make a stop in the Port City on Oct. 22 and Belville the next day, according to the Oscar Mayer website.
It'll first roll into Wilmington at the Harris Teeter on 3860 Carolina Beach Road on Oct. 22 from 2-6 p.m. Then the Wienermobile heads to Belville for the Halloween Trunk or Treat Monster Mash on Oct. 23 from 5-7 p.m.
The 27-foot-long vehicle has been around for more than 85 years. Now with six Wienermobiles driving around the country each year, one of them has visited the area a few times in recent years, the last in 2024. Its three local stops that year included Publix at Ogden Marketplace, the Wilmington KOA Holiday and The Children's
Museum of Wilmington.
The idea for the first Oscar Mayer Weinermobile was born in 1936 by Carl Mayer, nephew of the company's founder. Over the years, the design transformed from a 13-foot vehicle to a 27-foot-long hotdog on wheels. Updates to the initial design modernized the vehicle over time.
