With four operating locations scattered throughout the Wilmington area, a national convenience store and gas station is making its way to Brunswick County.
A Pennsylvania-based 24/7 convenience store chain has eyed two properties along U.S. 17, both on separate ends of Brunswick County.
Sheetz proposed a Leland location in early October 2025 and now it looks like another is planned for southern Brunswick. With one of the locations already starting its search for employees, here's what's planned for Sheetz.
Sheetz location coming Leland
Preliminary plans for the Sheetz in Leland were created on Sept. 30, 2025, by Timmons Group, submitted to the town of Leland on Oct. 9, 2025. Plans showed the new convenience store being built off U.S. 17, between Tractor Supply Company and Victory
Lane Quick Oil Change adjacent to residential units.
Nearly a year later, the Sheetz application earned conditional approval on Aug. 14, 2026. The staff's granting states the applicant can begin obtaining water, sewer and stormwater approvals. However, Sheetz must resubmit the plan to obtain final approval from the technical review committee.
Sheetz has posted job listings for the Leland location, with a store team member position starting at $15 an hour.
"We are excited about the Wilmington market and look forward to the opportunity to serve even more customers in the area," Sheetz Public Affairs Manager Sheetz Nick Ruffner said.
Sheetz location planned for southern Brunswick
A corner property near a busy intersection in Shallotte is expected to be the second Sheetz location in Brunswick. If approved and built, Sheetz will be located at the signalized intersection of U.S. 17, South Main Street and Old Shallotte Road.
“Sheetz can confirm that plans have been submitted for a new store location in Shallotte, NC, although it is too early in the development process to share additional details at this time," Ruffner said.
The 5.06-acre corner lot was located in Brunswick County's jurisdiction as part of the commercial and commercial-intensive zoning district. County property records show "Old Shallotte RE LLC" as the new property owner, with the former owner, Omnistorage Inc., owning the property since at least 2021.
Shallotte Assistant Town Manager Robert Waring said the Shallotte Board of Aldermen approved annexation and zoning for the 5-acre commercial property during their June 2026 meeting. The property is now zoned commercial under the town's highway business district.

Sun Coast Partners Commercial Broker David Summerlin, the listing agent, said Impeccable Development in August closed on the property for the asking price of $2,500,000.
Impeccable Development is a Florida-based retail developer under Impeccable Capital. Some of the tenants that the company collaborates with include Del Taco, Freddy's Frozen Custard and Steakburgers, Panda Express, Guthries, Popeyes, Parker's kitchen, Mattress Warehouse, Wawa, Sheetz and Food Lion.
Atlantic Retail has a listing that shows plans to build a "industry leading" convenience store/gas station with two outparcels on the property. However, Atlantic Retail's advertisement packet shows a "Future Sheetz" convenience store on the property.
The packet also stated that the two outparcels would be "ideal" for quick service restaurants, convenience retail, banks, medical offices and more.
