It looks like wet weather is bringing the Wilmington area some -- and "some" is doing a lot of work here -- cooler temperatures.

Hello again, this is Owen Hassell in place of John Staton for this week's edition of the Port City Life newsletter.

Weather wasn't exactly top of mind when I began crafting this piece. However, it's hard to escape this time of year. After all, we're still in drought conditions, and in portions of Brunswick County, at a major level.

That's where we find relief in the arts and entertainment world. Let's see what's happening with all of that.

As John mentions in our

events list for this weekend, the dog days of August have arrived, and along with the hot and humid weather — which will continue until further notice — we've also got a packed entertainment calendar in the Wilmington area.

Things are heavy on the concert side this weekend, with a mix of big touring shows and top-notch local bands. But we've also got a big coastal film festival, some comedy, theater and a "theatrical cocktail experience" that blends storytelling and crafted drinks.
