Throw a stone in Wilmington and you've got a good chance of hitting a construction site.
From expansive subdivisions to redevelopments of vacant properties, work is underway on a variety of projects across the Port City. Builders are working to keep pace with Wilmington's growth, which averages about 34 new residents per day.
Here are 18 developments in progress across New Hanover County.
The Club at Midtown
Located at 4950 Holly Tree Road, The Club at Midtown will be a private luxury sports and social hub. The club is targeting a September grand opening.
7 Brew
National chain 7 Brew is bringing its drive-thru coffee experience to 805 S. College Road. The establishment is being built at the site of a former Burger King, in front of the former K-Mart building.
Midtown & Main
Midtown & Main
will bring 40 residential units to the corner of Independence Boulevard and Oleander Drive. The development includes 16 three-bedroom townhomes and 24 one-bedroom units.
Circle K on Market Street
Work continues on a new Circle K at 4500 Market St. The convenience store/gas station is a redevelopment of an outparcel of Market Plaza at the intersection of Market Street and South Kerr Avenue. The store will have seven fuel pumps.
The Grove
The former North 17 Shopping Center is being redeveloped into what will be known as The Grove, a five-story, mixed-use building with four stories of residential above one story of retail. It is expected to be completed in fall 2027.
Wilmington International Airport improvements
A variety of construction projects are underway at the Wilmington International Airport. Most notably, a new parking garage is expected to be complete by the end of October. The extended commercial curb is slated to open in March 2027.
Center Point
Center Point is a $500 million project that will include retail, restaurant, residential, and office space. It is located near the intersection of Eastwood and Military Cutoff roads. An apartment complex, known as The Sterling, will include 265 units.
The Avenue
The Avenue will be a mixed-use development in the 300 block of Military Cutoff Road. It will feature retail, restaurants, boutiques, office space and 500 luxury apartments as well as a Westin Hotel with a spa and conference space.
Circle K on Dawson Street
Circle K is also bringing a new location to the corner of 17th and Dawson streets. The store will have eight fuel pumps.
Biggers Market on Carolina Beach Road
Biggers Market will relocate its existing stand on Carolina Beach Road to a site just one mile north. The new store, while still years away, will be the market's first fully enclosed location and offer year-round service.
Proximity Government Center
Proximity Government Center, located adjacent to the New Hanover County Government Center, will consist of 261 luxury apartments and is expected to be complete by the end of 2026. The brand currently has a location in Riverlights and Carolina Beach, with another planned on Blue Clay Road.
Royal Farms on Castle Hayne Road
Convenience store chain Royal Farms is bringing its famous fried chicken and western fries to 1824 Castle Hayne Road. Another location is also planned for 5235 North College Road.
Sidbury Station
Sidbury Station will bring 1,751 units to 396 acres in the 6000 block of Sidbury Road. Developer D.R. Horton is setting aside 45 acres for recreational space and 135 acres for passive open space.
Avenue One
Located in the 5300 block of Sidbury Road, Avenue One has a master plan of 733 homes. Home sales have already opened, with prices starting in the high $200,000 range.
7-Eleven on US 421
Convenience store chain 7-Eleven has three locations underway across New Hanover County, including one at 3705 U.S. North 421. The chain will also build at 5675 Barbados Blvd. and 2606 Carolina Beach Road.
Sheetz on U.S. 421
Construction is underway on multiple Sheetz convenience stores, including a location at 3251 U.S. North 421. A location is being built in the Seabreeze area, while another is planned on Market Street in Ogden.
Alton Orchard
Land clearing is well underway for Alton Orchard, a planned subdivision in the 6200 block of Myrtle Grove Road. River Road Construction plans to build 55 single-family homes on the 20-acre lot.
Wave Wellness
Wave Wellness is taking over the former Lowes Foods building at 805 Pine Grove Road. The 46,000-square-foot building will be upfitted to become a luxury medical spa.
