Work is underway on several developments along one of New Hanover County’s main corridors.
Business is booming along Carolina Beach Road, where a variety of both commercial and residential projects are
starting to take shape. Data from the N.C. Department of Transportation shows that an average of 47,500 vehicles drive the busiest stretch of the street each day, located just south of the Monkey Junction intersection.
In addition to all of the new buildings, Carolina Beach Road will also see a variety of improvements in the coming years. A portion of the roadway will be widened, and a multi-use path will be constructed along the highway.
Here are five developments underway along Carolina Beach Road.
Venture at Port City
Location: 3903 Carolina Beach Road
What to know: Venture at Port City will bring 225 apartment units to a 7-acre parcel across from the Harris Teeter at the corner of Carolina Beach Road and Independence Boulevard. Site plans also include open space, dog park, pool and clubhouse.
Walmart expansion
Location: 5135 Carolina Beach Road
What to know: Walmart plans to add 9,441 square feet to the existing building in the Monkey Junction area. The new space will be used for online pickup and delivery services. Several improvements will be made to the site, including a new sidewalk, delivery doors, overhead canopy and a variety of signage.
Seabreeze Village
Location: 803 S Seabreeze Road
What to know: In addition to the recently opened Sheetz convenience store, plans for Seabreeze Village include two restaurants, 5,000 square feet of medical facilities, 5,000 square feet of office space and 7,200 square feet of retail space.
Biggers Market
Location: 6218 Carolina Beach Road
What to know: Biggers Market will relocate its existing stand on Carolina Beach Road to a site just one mile north. The new store, while still years away, will be the market's first fully enclosed location and offer year-round service.
Wawa
Location: 4319 Carolina Beach Road
What to know: At the corner of Carolina Beach Road and George Anderson Drive, popular convenience store chain Wawa will construct one of several Wilmington locations. The chain’s first Wilmington store opened in May at 6800 Carolina Beach Road.
