The second ever Brunswick County Agricultural Fair and Expo will be held at 2030 Ash Little River Road NW in Ash from Oct. 21-25.
The Brunswick County Agricultural Fair and Expo has returned as the area's family fun fair. Like a true county fair, the five-day event will bring amusement park rides, livestock shows and entertainment acts.
With the fair expected to have more than 20 rides, nearly 20 vendors and much more, fair board member Allyson Newcomb encourages people to come early and expect fun.
Here's what to know about the anticipated event.
Sensory hours
From 10:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Friday, Oct. 23, the fair will offer a sensory-friendly time for individuals sensitive to noises, smells, sounds and colors, who may feel too overwhelmed during normal fair operating
hours.
While sensory hour participants will not have an admission fee, accompanying friends and family will have to pay $5 each to join, Newcomb said.
Entry fee and ticket prices
Fair entry is $7 cash and $8 card per person. Unlimited ride pass wristbands are an additional $32 per person, or $30 each if paying with cash.
Ride tickets can be purchased on site and online. A single ticket is $1.50. Cash discounts are also available.
Parking and entry for people 36 inches tall and under are free. Fair entry stops at 10 p.m.
Patrons will go through a metal detector checkpoint, and all bags will be checked at the gate prior to entering the fair. Clear bags are preferred, as stated on the fair website, and no weapons will be allowed on the premises.
Patrons 16 years old and under must have a supervising adult.
Rides galore
Dreamland Amusements will provide all rides and games again this year, said Newcomb, including a Ferris wheel.
The Zeus ride will be returning with the fair, Newcomb said. Last year was the first year the company offered the sideways spinning ride.
Dreamland is also expected to bring several other new rides this year, Newcomb added.
Local food vendors
Patrons will see a variety of local food vendors. Some of the fair food options include fried shrimp, turkey legs, Italian ice and coffee.

Live entertainment each day
Live entertainment will be going on every day, all day. Entertainment will include music from live bands, a fire dancer, and shows from Brad Machette. Machette will have two different shows- a kid comedy/magician show and an adult hypnotist show, Newcomb said.
Seven educational agricultural magic act shows will be performed throughout the five days, with multiple shows on Oct. 24 and Oct. 25.
There is also a diaper derby planned for Saturday, Oct. 24, from noon-1 p.m.
Livestock shows
A livestock exhibit and multiple agricultural contests and shows will also be on the fairgrounds. Cattle, swine, goats, sheep, horses, donkeys, poultry, rabbits and ducks can be seen at the livestock exhibit.
Public agricultural shows include a chicken showing/contest at 6 p.m. on Wednesday, Oct. 21, and a goat showing/contest on Thursday, Oct. 22, at 6 p.m.
Students in the Brunswick County 4-H Youth Development Program will be educating the public during the fair and participating in a 4-H only Dairy Heifer show on Saturday, Oct. 24, at 3 p.m.
Fireworks
If weather permits, Newcomb said they are planning a firework show for Saturday night.
