One of the few grocery stores in New Hanover County's fastest growing area is set to close.
Fresh Foods IGA in Castle Hayne is closing, according to a sign hanging on the building in early October. The sign announced that the store is having a closing sale, noting that "everything must go." Another sign notes that items are 25% off.
The store is located at 5601 Castle Hayne Road, next to a Hardee's, Circle K and a storage facility. The site is also home to the Seaglass Monthly Market,which features more than 50 local vendors on the third weekday of every month.
What are the closest grocery stores?
The two closest full-service grocery stores to the Fresh Foods IGA are both Food Lion locations. One of the stores is located at 2601 Castle Hayne Road in Wrightsboro, while the other is located in Northchase
at 3211 Enterprise Drive in a shopping center just south of New Hanover County's newest library branch.
Dollar General is also open at 6101 Castle Hayne Road, nearly half a mile from the Fresh Foods IGA. Family Dollar has a location at 2616 Castle Hayne Road in Wrightsboro.
What's coming to the area?
Long known as a quiet area north of Wilmington, thousands of homes are in the works across several developments along Castle Hayne Road.
A variety of businesses are planned in the area to serve current and future residents. A Hispanic grocery store is slated for 2624 Castle Hayne Road, across from the Wrightsboro Family Dollar. The store will be a new location for the existing Tienda Latina El Paso, a small grocery store just south of the site.
Convenience store chain Royal Farms is bringing its famous fried chicken and western fries to 1824 Castle Hayne Road. Another location is also planned for 5235 North College Road.
Castle Hayne Brews and Putt will be located at 5406 Castle Hayne Road, and will include a bottle shop and a 18-hole miniature golf course. The business will also feature outdoor games such as cornhole, acoustic live music and a selection of rotating food trucks. Owners plan to open this fall.
