A driver involved in a two-vehicle collision with a vehicle operated by a minor in Wilmington on June 16 has died, police said.
An investigation determined that Marina Smyrnow was driving a Lexus and attempting a left turn at the intersection of Military Cutoff Road and Station Road when it was struck by a Chevrolet Colorado traveling westbound on Military Cutoff Road, according to a Wilmington Police Department news release on Sept. 2.
The collision just before 11:15 p.m. that night caused significant damage to both vehicles and resulted in serious injuries, police said. Smyrnow later succumbed to her injuries and was pronounced dead, according to the news release.
The 15-year-old has been charged with misdemeanor death by motor vehicle, careless
and reckless operation resulting in serious injury, speeding (79 mph in a 45-mph zone), and no operator’s license.
The juvenile’s parents were charged with contributing to the delinquency of a minor and allowing an unlicensed driver to operate a motor vehicle.
