What is the story about?
If your calendar is anything like mine, it's filling up with wine dinners, oyster roasts, spooky spaces and other delicious possibilities. I guess we are officially in event season here in the Wilmington area with so much happening
. That includes a new seafood festival that is bringing together an impressive line-up of culinary and seafood talent in about a month. Check out the details, and more of this week's food news, below.Restaurant openings and closings
- Of course, things are always changing on the local restaurant scene. New spots are offering Cuban pastries, New York street food and Korean eats. And a few restaurants have closed as well, unfortunately.See some of them here. And the changes continue as one of the area's hidden gem restaurants will close soon. - And I know people are eager to get a look at this new restaurant in downtown Wilmington, that promises Greek food and fun. While there are still some pieces being put into place before they open, here's a peek.

What to eat
- Who doesn't love a taco? And there are so many versions to adore. But StarNews readers voted for their picks and here are the top three. Tell us if you agree.
- Oh, and the sfogliatella! There's a lot to love at this New York style deli / diner. They have years in business to prove it. But I knew as soon as I picked up this pastry that it was a winner -- a surprising heft for the delicate, shell-like appearance. Try one next time you go.
- And as for that aforementioned events calendar, here's a look at what's ahead. The events for the seafood fest include both lavish and instructional fests, and other events where you can learn more about the local industry. They are sure to sell out. Until then, the African Caribbean Market & More at 4209 Oleander Drive in Wilmington is hosting an End of Summer Party on Oct. 18 with African food and Afrobeats. And you can get extra spicy with an upcoming Slice of Fear Challenge at the downtown Slice of Life Location. Participants will take on slices of a very spicy, spicy pie on Oct. 24for fame and glory.
