The weekend before Labor Day weekend in the Wilmington area is a bit of a liminal space.
The kids are back in school so it's not really summer anymore, but we've also got one final "last weekend of summer" to look foward to with the Labor Day holiday bearing down on us.
And even though it's a school night, you've got a chance for some summer fun Thursday, Aug. 27, at Carolina Beach. For starters, it's the second-to-last Boardwalk Blast of the year, with The Boilen Brothers playing country roots on the Boardwalk's gazebo stage at 6 p.m. followed by fireworks on the beach strand at 9 p.m.
It's also the final Thursday night concert of the summer at the Ocean Grill & Tiki Bar, which serves up a double bill of bands from 7-9 p.m. Aug. 27. Opening the show
at 7 p.m. sharp are Wilmington indie rock vets Glow in the Dark Scars playing a mix of wounded rockers, cheeky novelties and hooky gems. Psyche-rockers Sonic Blooms close the show with a set at 8 p.m.
