The former Waterman’s Brewing and Sammy Sea’s Coastal Kitchen location is taking a turn to the Caribbean. New owners of the property at 1610 Pavilion Place in Wilmington said they plan to open Aug. 17 as Cabana Bar and Grill.
Clayton Gsell and Kevin Keatts recently purchased the property and have been preparing for a new concept in recent weeks.
Gsell said the menu will feature Caribbean and American inspired dishes (like grilled jerk wings, coconut shrimp, Steak Churrasco and mofongo) and tropical cocktails served in a setting that offers vacation vibes.
In addition to classic drinks like Mai Tais, Bahama Mamas and Guava Mules, Cabana Bar and Grill will feature a selection of local and regional beers.

Look for a comfortable indoor bar where you can watch sports, and an outdoor patio complete with an AstroTurf lawn and games like cornhole, Gsell said.
Gsell and Keatts are also the owners of Husk, YoSake and Tempo 33 in the Roudabush building at 33 S. Front St. in downtown Wilmington. Keatts is the former men’s basketball coach for University North Carolina Wilmington and led N.C. State University’s team to the Final Four in the 2024 NCAA Division I men's basketball tournament.
