A breakfast and lunch restaurant in downtown Wilmington has shuttered. Jester’s Cafe, at 607 Castle St., made the announcement Sept. 1 on social media and its website.
“After many happy years having the honor of serving you at Jester’s Cafe, we are closed,” the note said. “Thank you so much for your support.”
The restaurant, located in a renovated cottage, opened in 2004. In 2016, Sydney Penny and Robert Powers took over over ownership of the business.
Powers died in late 2024. Then, earlier this year, Penny listed the business for sale.
At the time, she said she loved Jester’s, but was ready to move on to other projects. MoMentum Companies’ Terry Espy, who was working with
Penny for the sale, said that Castle Street is a burgeoning foodie district.
"May we meet again over coffee and a slice of quiche," said the note from Jester's Cafe.
