Savannah Artist Discusses Drive Thru Art Box Exhibit
One of the many programs offered by nonprofit ARTS Southeast is an ongoing community art installation entitled the Drive Thru Art Box (yes, it’s in the menu box in the drive-through!) behind Green Truck Pub, 2430 Habersham Street. Through Oct. 8, the Art Box is home to “story board,” an installation by beloved Savannah artist Marcus Kenney who earned an MFA in Photography from SCAD
and has exhibited his paintings, neon, installations, and sculptures in museums, institutions, galleries, and art fairs both nationally and internationally. Join Kenney for his Happy House Artist Talk at ARTS Southeast as he discusses his latest creation.

Skate with the 912 Skaters Coalition at Lake Mayer every Thursday evening. The grassroots nonprofit, which is always looking for more venues interested in hosting skating events, ultimately seeks a new home after losing access to the former Starcastle rink. The open-air skating party is open to skaters of all levels and music is provided by DJ Live Child. Panel, film explore Sandy West’s Ossabaw legacy
Telfair Museums’ hosts a panel discussion and screening of Megan Mayhew Bergman’s short film A Taste of the Wild: The Legacy of Sandy West. The film tells the story of the conservation icon’s love affair with Ossabaw Island and her pioneering interdisciplinary vision for its conservation. It is presented in conjunction with the landmark show “Off the Coast of Paradise: Artists & Ossabaw Island, 1961-Now” and is followed by a discussion between Mayhew Bergman and Beryl Gilothwest, grandson of Clifford and Sandy West, moderated by Erin Dunn, Telfair’s’ Curator of Modern & Contemporary Art. Travel back to the Prohibition Era with Sweet Georgia Brown, a new musical featuring lively jazz and blues from the roaring twenties, set in Frogtown, Savannah. A Diamondback Terrapin hatchling show & tell at the new, indoor STEAM Center at Savannah Children’s Museum gives children ages 6 and older the opportunity to hold a hatchling! Learn about efforts to help the Terrapin population recover by relocating their eggs to safer nesting boxes. Representatives from the Skidaway Audubon Diamondback Terrapin Rescue will explain what you and your family can do to help. Bike Walk Savannah hosts monthly community ride
Join the nonprofit Bike Walk Savannah each month for a casual, family-friendly bike ride at a different spot in Savannah or Chatham County. This month, riders meet at the Sentient Bean coffee shop for a ride around town. Bring your own helmet, bike and water. The ride is free and open to the public, but participants are encouraged to become a member of Bike Walk Savannah or make a donation at www.bikesavannah.org to support their efforts to create an inclusive, connected community with safe streets for all, whether you are walking, biking, rolling, or driving.
