One man is being treated at Effingham Hospital after what law enforcement in Rincon are calling a mental health crisis.
The Rincon Police Department responded to a disturbance Wednesday around 9 a.m. Bryan Fox, 57, assaulted one person, damaged a number of vehicles with a bat and started a small fire in his apartment. When authorities arrived, Fox was in the process of causing damage to property. No injuries were reported and the fire was contained.
“This was a rapidly evolving and potentially dangerous situation for our officers, residents, and everyone in the surrounding area,” said Rincon Police Chief Jonathon Murrell. “Our officers arrived within minutes, immediately engaged the individual, and were able to bring the situation under control,
while avoiding what could have been a lethal force situation. We are thankful no one was injured.”
Authorities say the incident is still being investigated and felony charges are pending for Fox.
