The Savannah High at Islands football game on Thursday, Aug. 27, was postponed by lightning strikes in the area at halftime of the game, which will be continued on Saturday, Aug. 29, with the second half kickoff set for 3 p.m. at Islands Stadium.
Islands will receive the second half kickoff and the Sharks will start the third quarter leading the game 11-0.
Senior quarterback Mason McLaughlin connected with his classmate, Michael Cooler, for a seven-yard scoring strike with 9:46 left in the second quarter. McLaughlin was holding on the extra point attempt, and was forced to scramble after a bad snap ― but he ended up connecting with Cooler againfor a two-point conversion as the Sharks went up 8-0.
Thomas Giovannini booted a 29-yard field goal for
the Sharks as time expired in the second quarter to give the Sharks the 11-0 halftime lead.
Junior running back Parker Woods had a strong first-half showing for Islands as he ran for 40 yards on eight carries and caught a 32-yard pass from McLaughlin. Nathan Tulloch added 39 yards on nine carries for Islands.
Wyatt Balsalmo had an interception for the Sharks.
The Sharks won their opener with a 36-24 victory at Groves last week. Savannah High lost its opener 20-6 to Johnson.
