For many Georgians, it was a very hot Labor Day weekend with temperatures in the high 90's or even above 100 in some cities. Yet, the pumpkin spice lattes would have you believe fall is coming.
When will it cool down in Georgia?
The Weather Channel and AccuWeather have monthly weather forecasts that give some indication a reprieve is on the horizon. Parts of Georgia, like Augusta and Atlanta, are already seeing high temperatures break below 90 degrees this week. But, by the end of the third week of September, the forecasts report high temps throughout most of Georgia will stay below 90 from now on.
Similarly, low temperatures will start to break below 70 in some areas this week, and are expected to largely stay in the 60's for the majority of Georgians by week three. It could drop
all the way down to 60 by the end of the month, depending on where you live.
More northern parts are expected to get colder sooner. In cities like Helen, Labor Day temperatures reportedly dropped below 80 on the high end and below 70 on the low end. Those numbers are back up slightly, but by the end of the month, high temps should stay in the 70's and low temps could approach 50 degrees.
Is September fall?
While September is generally considered an autumnal month, the official start of the season is marked by the fall equinox, which falls this year on Tuesday, Sept. 22 at 8:05 p.m.
What does the National Weather Service predict for fall in Georgia?
The National Weather Service released updated seasonal outlooks on Aug. 20 with temperatures in Georgia leaning 33-40% above normal for most of the state, except the northernmost area where temps are looking standard.

As for rain, nearly all of Georgia can expect at least a 33% chance of above-normal precipitation, except a chunk of the southeast where it's a 40-50% chance. The only area of the Peach State with a normal amount forecasted is in the very tip of the southwest corner.

What does the Farmers' Almanac predict for fall in Georgia?
The Farmers' Almanac's national fall forecast says this season will reportedly be a "warm, stormy" one for Georgia and the rest of the southeast.
What does the Old Farmer's Almanac say about Georgia's fall?
The Old Farmer's Almanac's own national fall 2026 forecast said Georgia will largely be dry, with the southern parts of the southeast receiving up to four inches less-than-normal rainfall.
The southeast's September and October temperatures are expected to drop one degree below the norm. Most of Georgia will experience a cool fall except for the western-most edge where it will be warmer.
