The 25th anniversary of the Sept. 11th terrorist attacks was remembered by several local law enforcement, fire departments and other first responders and many citizens during ceremonies in both Bluffton and Hardeeville.
The event in Bluffton was held Sept. 11 at 8:30 a.m. at Buckwalter Place Park, Bluffton Veterans Memorial.
The event was held to honor the 25th anniversary of 9-11, honoring the 2,977 people killed in the terror attacks of Sept. 11, 2001, at the World Trade Center, near Shanksville, Pennsylvania, and at the Pentagon, a town spokesperson previously said.
The ceremony included numerous Beaufort County agencies and schools as well as Bluffton officials who participated.
“On the 25th anniversary of Sept. 11, we honor the lives lost,
the heroes who answered the call and the strength of a nation that came together,” a town spokesperson said. “May we continue to honor their legacy through remembrance, compassion and unity. We will never forget.”
First responders and others also hosted a Sept. 11 ceremony at 10 a.m. at Hardeeville Memorial Park.
The Hardeeville Police Department and the Hardeeville Fire Department hosted the ceremony. The event included honoring those who lost their lives as well as the first responders who made the ultimate sacrifice in the process of serving and protecting their communities.
“Twenty-five years later, we remember,” a City of Hardeeville spokesperson said. “Hardeeville came together to honor and remember the lives lost, the heroes who responded, and the resilience that followed the events of Sept. 11, 2001.”
