Pizza, cider and pumpkins welcome fall at Hop Atomica
Gather the family and head over to the Thomas Square neighborhood brewery, distillery and wood-fired restaurant Hop Atomica on Saturday, Oct. 17 between 3 p.m. and 6 p.m. for their Fall Festival and Trunk-or-Treat. With music by Trey Cooper, face painting, pumpkin carving, cider slush, pie-eating and doughnut-eating contests, it’s sure to put you in the mood for chillier temps, autumn colors, and the pleasures of the season. Be sure to save room for a fire baked tin fish appetizer or salad, a meaty sandwich, or a fabulous woodfired pizza and craft cocktail. My personal favorite is the Fig & Pig (crescenza cream, mozzarella, white balsamic fig spread, and prosciutto di Parma) while vegetarians won’t regret ordering the Fungi (ricotta, mozzarella, roasted
wild blend mushrooms and red onion).

Cake takes center stage at Coastal Table and Tales
Let’s Eat Cake! Coastal Table and Tales, Savannah’s dedicated culinary bookstore, cooking workshop, and gathering space located at 408 Bull Street hosts a variety of classes, but this may be one of the sweetest! (And at under $15, what a fun and inexpensive way to get your sugar fix.) Join fellow cake enthusiasts on Sunday, Oct. 18 from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. for an afternoon built around baker Dorie Greenspan’s book Dorie’s Anytime Cakes. Stop by the shop and browse through the book without obligation to buy and select a recipe you’d like to make. Sign up (the shop will share a Google doc so there will be no duplicate cakes), bake your cake, and bring it to share on the Sunday. Gather around the table, enjoy an assortment of cakes, and swap notes on what you baked, what worked, and what you may do differently next time. The bookstore provides the cider, coffee, tea, and cozy atmosphere. Buy your ticket through Eventbrite at www.coastaltableandtalessavannah.com

Wine and dine Italian style at Sobremesa
Cozy neighborhood small-plates restaurant and wine bar Sobremesa (2312 Abercorn Street) has updates to share. Happy Hour is every evening (they are closed Sunday and Monday) with food and drink discounted by 15% between 5 p.m. and 6:30 p.m.; listen to live music as you dine every Wednesday evening from 6:30 p.m. to 9 p.m.; and on the evening of Thursday, Oct. 22 there’s a one-night-only Artist and DJ Party as local painter Leeann Ritch and DJ Rose Ray have a Sobremesa takeover! Finally, Chef Josh and co-owner Jason Restivo launch an Italian themed wine and dinner party in the back room of the restaurant for two nights only. Join them at an intimate table of eight on Oct. 20 or Oct. 21 for a family-style dinner of five courses and five wines. The menu looks divine - starting with a trio of Salt Bombs served with a NV Giol Prosecco and ending with Tiramisu served with a 2024 Bibbiano Vin Santo. Check out Resy to claim a spot. Hope you score a seat!
Joe & Vera’s brings back steak frites for fall
The teeny but cozy Joe & Vera’s at 23 W. Broughton is really bringing the deliciousness with their new Fall menu which dropped on Sept. 23. Many of us are thrilled to welcome back the Steak Frites (an 8-ounce Teres Major topped with Chimichurri, Beef Fat roasted French Fries, and Beef Fat Mayo - so good!), along with local Georgia shrimp, devilled eggs and caviar, beautiful vegetables, favorite classics and new cocktails. Reservations, via Resy, are highly recommended.
Tea, cookies and vintage finds await at Linen & Leaf
Finally, have you visited Linen & Leaf Design Company, the newly opened store in Starland on the corner of Bull and West 42nd Street? In addition to a darling gift shop offering linens, curated vintage home décor, antiques, ceramics, a selection of fresh cut flowers and loose teas from Savannah’s Ashford Tea Company and Hale Tea Company, you can order a hot tea (choose your favorite mug or cup from the selection at the bar) and enjoy a cookie from Savannah’s Bloom Cookies bakery. Not exactly dining, but definitely a nice addition to our rather meagre tea shop scene in Savannah. Linen & Leaf is located at 2519 Bull Street and is open every day but Monday from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m.
