WorldAtlas recently released a list of the most snake-infested rivers in the U.S. Those listed provide snakes with food, shelter, and access to the ecosystems that sustain them. This includes Suwannee River, which partially crosses through Georgia.
Snakes in the water
"There are 39 different species of snake found in the Suwannee River Basin, five of which are venomous," WorldAtlas said. "The timber rattlesnake and red-bellied water snake....reach the southernmost and easternmost extent of their range on the Suwannee River. Other species, like the short-tailed snake....reach the northernmost and westernmost extent of their range."

According to the UGA River Basin Center, the Suwannee River is a free-flowing blackwater river that runs almost 250 miles to the Gulf
of Mexico. It's part of a basin that includes multiple wildlife reserves, state parks, and wilderness areas in the south not far from Valdosta.
The Alapaha, Little, Withlacoochee, and Willacoochee Rivers are also part of the basin, draining over 11,000 square miles of land in Georgia and Florida.
