Did Big Lots go bankrupt?
Big Lots filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection on Sept. 9, 2024, citing inflation, high interest rates, and sales drops. The company said at the time it had "substantial doubt" about its ability to continue to operate, and announced 300+ closures. Several locations found new life as other discount retail chains like Ollie's.
A deal facilitated by Gordon Brothers investment in January 2025 allowed Variety
Wholesalers (the company behind Roses) to rescue Big Lots, reopening hundreds of stores which are still open today.
