SCAD professors discuss Savannah’s evolution from 'Ideal City' to modern model
The Historic Savannah Foundation hosts a special lecture entitled “More Than a Historic District: The Enduring Relevance of the Savannah Plan.” Join SCAD Architectural History Chair Emeritus Dr. Robin B. Williams and Architectural History Professor Emeritus Dr. David W. Gobel for an informative
and engaging talk in honor of the release of their new book Learning from Savannah: From Ideal City to Elastic Urbanism, published by the University of Georgia Press on Aug. 1. They will discuss the history of Savannah’s urban plan originally developed by city founder James Edward Oglethopre in 1733 and explore how it has evolved in planned and serendipitous ways through the years. Attendees are invited to a 5:30 p.m. wine reception prior to the lecture. The evening is free for Historic Savannah Foundation members and $15 for non-members.
