The Georgia Department of Transportation has announced new safety measures in Effingham County near four schools.
Pedestrian Hybrid Beacons will be activated beginning Aug. 26. The traffic control device signals motorists when to stop, giving pedestrians a way to cross the road safely, according to a press release by GDOT.
The new safety feature will be at SR 275 at Ebenezer Elementary School and Ebenezer Middle School, State Route 119 at Effingham County High School and State Route 30 at South Effingham High School.
"This safety enhancement project should elevate the level of safety for students and other pedestrians crossing a state highway to school campuses," reads the press release. "...Message boards will be placed at and near these locations
to make motorists aware of the activation date."
