Why do we celebrate Labor Day?
Labor Day grew out of the labor movement of the late 19th century, when workers and labor activists pushed for a holiday recognizing the contributions of American workers.
The holiday became a federal observance in 1894 following years of growing support for a national celebration of workers.
Today, Labor Day marks the unofficial end of summer for many Americans, and for Georgians, it also means one more long weekend before fall gets underway.
