Three people were arrested and deadly weaponry confiscated following a string of shootings in Jasper County in early October.
The Jasper County Sheriff’s Office (JCSO) announced Wednesday, Oct. 7, that it had arrested three suspects following a series of retaliatory shootings that occurred at multiple locations throughout Jasper County.
In a release, the JCSO stated the latest shootings, which were fortunately not fatal, are believed to be retaliatory for an Oct. 2 homicide in Hardeeville.
According to the J.C. Coroner's Office, during that incident Travis Brown, 18, of Hardeeville, was shot in the vicinity of Bus Loop Road and Red Dam Road in Hardeeville and was later pronounced dead at Coastal Carolina Hospital.
After the Hardeeville Police Department
made several arrests in connection with this Friday night homicide, a trio of shootings subsequently occurred in the Hardeeville area:
- On Oct. 3 in the Cooks Landing Road area;
- On Oct. 4 in the Industrial Park Road area;
- On Oct. 5 in the Bees Creek Road area.
Fortunately, no one was injured in those shootings, stated the JCSO, and four firearms were recovered during the investigation, which also garnered an eyewitness description of the vehicle involved in the shootings.
That vehicle was later located and, following a pursuit which ended in a crash on Interstate 95, three suspects were arrested: Reyli Cisnero, 20, and two juveniles.
Cisnero is charged with:
- Failure to stop for a blue light;
- Contributing to the delinquency of a minor;
- Discharging a firearm into a dwelling;
- possession of a weapon during a violent crime;
- Breach of peace, aggravated in nature;
- Unlawful possession of a machine gun or sawed-off shotgun/rifle.
The juveniles are facing similar charges, in addtion to unlawful possession of weapons.
The weapons seized included a Glock 17 9 mm pistol, two AR-15-style riles, and an AK-style 7.62 mm pistol.
In a statement, Jasper County Sheriff Chris Malphrus spoke about the importance of ending the cycles of violence and retaliation.
"There's no reason to continue this cycle of violence," said Malphrus. "Our agencies are working together to investigate these incidents and hold those responsible accountable. Retaliating with more gunfire only puts innocent people at risk and makes it more difficult for law enforcement to properly investigate these cases. We are asking everyone involved to stop the violence and allow our agencies to do the job we are here to do."
The JCSO said they were working closely with the Hardeeville Police Department on this case and the investigation is ongoing.
Anyone with information on any of these shootings is asked to call the JCSO at 843-726-7777 or leave an anonymous tip at the Sheriff's Office website at: www.jcso.net.
