Move over Pillsbury Doughboy and Cinnabon, because Southern Living Assistant Editor Symiah Dorsey said the cinnamon roll crown goes to an orchard in middle Georgia.
Best cinnamon rolls in Georgia
In her Aug. 29 article, Dorsey said she visited Lane Southern Orchards, home of Peachtree Cafe and Bakery, where she was sad to hear the fryers were down, but they had cinnamon rolls she could try.
"I took a seat at one of the many tables and waited for my cinnamon roll, which I ordered alongside their chicken and waffles," she wrote. "One benefit of visiting during the shoulder season is the peace and quiet that comes with the views. The only chatter came from a group of friendly locals who clearly knew the café well."
But her disappointment over the fryers was quickly washed away
by the dessert, which she started with instead of the chicken and waffles.
"I'm not usually a cinnamon roll person, but this was easily the best one I’ve ever had," Dorsey said. "The edges of each ring were perfectly crisp while the inside remained soft. And the best part was the center, where a fresh piece of honeycomb sat atop the layers. My only regret is not buying another before I left, but now I guess I have no choice but to return for peach season."
Cinnamon rolls are on the "Desserts and Baked Goods" menu. You can get one for $4.29 or a four pack for about $15. You can find more menu details at lanesouthernorchards.com/pages/peachtree-cafe-bakery.
