Summermay be winding down in Georgia, but some of the state's biggest theme parks are still welcoming visitors this fall.
The water parks, however, are following a different schedule.
Several popular Georgia water attractions have closed for the 2026 season following Labor Day weekend, while their larger theme parks are transitioning into fall events and select operating dates.
Here's what to know before planning a trip.
Are Georgia water parks still open?
For the most part, Georgia's major water parks have wrapped up their 2026 seasons.
Summer Waves Water Park on Jekyll Island is closed for the season and is scheduled to reopen in May 2027, according to Jekyll Island's official website. Its 2026 schedule ended after Labor Day weekend.
Splash Island Waterpark at Wild Adventuresin Valdosta
also closed after Labor Day. The park's final waterpark operating day of 2026 was Sept. 7, according to Wild Adventures.
The waterpark closes each fall for seasonal maintenance and because cooler temperatures make waterpark operations impractical.
Six Flags White Waterin Marietta has also moved into its offseason. Six Flags currently lists the water park as wrapping up its final weekends of the 2026 season, with attraction availability varying during those final operations.
That means anyone hoping to spend a September day at one of Georgia's major water parks should check the individual park's calendar before making plans.
Is Six Flags Over Georgia still open?
Yes. The closing of the waterpark does not meanSix Flags Over Georgia has closed for the year.
Six Flags Over Georgia continues its 2026 season on select dates, including fall events.
The park's official calendar lists Fright Fest and Tricks and Treats on select dates from Sept. 12 through Nov. 1, 2026.
So while guests won't be visiting Six Flags White Water for water slides this fall, they can still visit the larger Six Flags Over Georgia amusement park on scheduled operating dates.
Is Wild Adventures still open?
Yes. Wild Adventures in Valdosta continues operating after Splash Island's water season ends.
The theme park is moving into its fall schedule with Great Pumpkin LumiNights, which begins Sept. 26 and runs on Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays through Nov. 1.
The fall event includes illuminated pumpkin displays, seasonal entertainment, Spookley's Trick-or-Treat Trail and rides and attractions throughout the park.
Wild Adventures says guests can continue enjoying rides and attractions during the scheduled Great Pumpkin LumiNights operating hours.
When do Georgia water parks usually close?
Georgia's major water parks generally operate around the warmer months, with many ending their regular waterpark seasons around Labor Day.
For 2026, that pattern is particularly clear.
Wild Adventures specifically scheduled Sept. 7 as the final operating day for Splash Island, while Summer Waves also transitioned out of its 2026 season following Labor Day weekend.
Six Flags White Water is also now in its final-weekends period rather than operating on a full summer schedule.
The transition allows the larger theme parks to shift toward fall attractions, Halloween events and other seasonal programming as temperatures cool.
What Georgia theme parks can you still visit this fall?
Even though the waterpark season is ending, there are still opportunities to visit Georgia's major amusement parks.
Six Flags Over Georgia has scheduled fall operations and events through the fall, including Fright Fest and Tricks and Treats on select dates through Nov. 1.
Wild Adventures is also continuing its season with Great Pumpkin LumiNights on select dates through Nov. 1.
For both parks, operating dates and hours vary, so visitors should check the official calendar before heading out.
When will Georgia water parks reopen?
The reopening dates depend on the park.
Summer Waves on Jekyll Island is already advertising its next season, with the water park listed as closed until May 2027.
Wild Adventures' Splash Island is also expected to return during the 2027 season. The park has already announced a new Neon Nights event for Splash Island in June and July 2027, when the waterpark will stay open later on select Friday and Saturday nights.
