A committee dedicated to serving Beaufort County through helping to improve the county’s transportation infrastructure recently received an award for its efforts from the South Carolina Department of Transportation.
The Beaufort County Transportation Committee received the inaugural SCDOT Transportation Excellence Award Sept. 16.
The Paving the Way for Stronger Communities award recognizes dedicated service and commitment to building safer, stronger and more accessible transportation infrastructure for the citizens of Beaufort County, a spokesperson said.
Beaufort County Transportation Committee Chairman Kraig Gordon thanked the committee members for their excellence in service amongst county transportation committees across the state.
"I can't
thank this committee enough for the hard work that you put into serving," Gordon said.
SCDOT C Program Manager Chris Rawls commended the committee’s efforts and partnership throughout the years.
"Every time that someone asks me who's getting it right, I use your (Beaufort County’s) committee as the example,” Rawls said. “You're not only helping the people of Beaufort, you're helping people across the state and you should be very proud of that."
The Beaufort County Transportation Committee, the spokesperson said, formulates a county transportation plan to establish aims and goals of the committee, approve the expenditure of “C” Funds in compliance with S.C. Code Ann. §12-28-2740, and make annual reports to the SCDOT of expenditures in accordance with S.C. Code Ann. §12-28-2740(D).
