Summer in Georgia means beach vacations, lake weekends and family road trips, but for many drivers, the frustration starts before they even reach the water.
A new survey from personal injury law firm Munley Lawidentified the three summer parking lots that Georgia residents find the most frustrating, citing crowded spaces, long waits and tense encounters between drivers.

According to the survey, these are the three parking areas Georgia residents said are the most aggravating during the busy summer season:
1.
South Beach/Pier Parking Area, Tybee Island
Tybee Island's South Beach area claimed the top spot in Georgia.
The popular beach destination draws visitors with its pier, restaurants, vacation rentals and easy beach access. However, year-round paid parking and high demand for spaces near the waterfront can leave drivers circling the area in search of an opening.
2. Driftwood Beach Parking, Jekyll Island
Known for its iconic driftwood-covered shoreline, Driftwood Beach attracts photographers, beachgoers and sightseers throughout the year.
According to the survey, limited parking near the beach can make finding a space difficult during peak travel periods, even after visitors have paid to enter Jekyll Island.
3. Old Federal Day Use Park, Lake Lanier
Rounding out the list is Old Federal Day Use Park at Lake Lanier.
The survey notes that trucks, boat trailers and families unloading coolers and lake gear contribute to congestion around the park's parking and boat launch areas, especially on busy summer weekends.
What parking frustrations do Georgians notice most?
Respondents said these are the parking problems they encounter most often at busy summer destinations:
- Illegal parking on shoulders, grass or restricted areas (17%)
- Drivers squeezing into spaces that are too small (16%)
- Cars blocking entrances, exits or other vehicles (14%)
- Angry honking (14%)
- Drivers stealing parking spaces (11%)
Many Georgians avoid destinations because of parking
The survey also found parking headaches can be enough to change travel plans.
According to the results:
- 59% of Georgians said they've skipped visiting a summer destination because parking was too stressful.
- 22% said they've been involved in a parking dispute at a beach, lake, park or other vacation destination.
- Nearly half of respondents (46%) said they'll search for a parking space for only five to 10 minutes before giving up.
Why are summer parking lots so stressful?
The biggest complaint wasn't aggressive drivers, it was simply a lack of available parking.
Survey respondents said the leading causes of parking frustration were:
- Too few parking spaces (37%)
- People ignoring parking rules (16%)
- High parking fees (15%)
- Lack of traffic control (7%)
