Roadway improvements are coming to a key corridor in one of the fastest growing areas of Savannah.
Work began on July 31 on road resurfacing of Benton Boulevard near Savannah’s Highlands, a large-scale master planned community home to about 650 Savannahians, according to data on the neighborhood’s website. The City of Savannah will repave 2.25 miles of road from Highlands Boulevard to the Pooler city limits, according to a City of Savannah press release.
Benton Boulevard is a key arterial for connectivity between The Highlands and Pooler, where the nearest grocery and retail options are located for those residents. The press release said the work will extend the service life of the road. The city has $3.6 million budgeted for street paving and pavement
rehabilitation in its 2026 budget.
To reduce community impact, the city is conducting work during the nighttime, where paving and milling of road sections have already started. There will be temporary lane closures during work hours which will vary depending on the time of week. Here are the scheduled work hours:
Friday – Saturday: 9 p.m. to 7 a.m.
Sunday – Thursday: 8 p.m. to 6 a.m.
“Motorists are encouraged to use caution when traveling through the work zone, watch for changing traffic patterns, and allow additional travel time during construction,” the city’s press release said.
Benton Boulevard is a priority area for the City of Savannah as it seeks to accommodate growth in the area. The corridor, along with Highlands Boulevard is slated for $24 million in the latest Special Purpose Local Option Sales Tax for expansion.
