Two men were convicted in the fatal shooting of a 22-year-old man at a Johnny Mercer Boulevard apartment complex following a Chatham County Police Department investigation.
A Chatham County jury found 27-year-old Brandon Jones and 19-year-old Vershan Ervin guilty on multiple charges connected to the killing of Phillippe Moore, according to a community announcement. The convictions were returned Sept. 11.
Authorities said the case stemmed from the death of Moore, 22, who was shot and killed Feb. 21, 2024.
Jurors convicted Jones and Ervin on charges that included murder, felony aggravated assault, criminal intent to commit a felony robbery and possession of a firearm during the commission of a felony.
The Chatham County Police Department said its
investigation led to the arrests and subsequent convictions.
“The arrests and convictions in this case are the result of excellent investigative work by our detectives,” said Chatham County Police Chief Jeff Hadley. “The expertise of our Criminal Investigations Division and Forensic Unit ensured that we had solid evidence that allowed a jury to understand the roles of the defendants in this murder and bring justice to the victim’s family.”
Jones and Ervin have not yet been sentenced. Sentencing hearings will be scheduled at a later date.
