It can take time for new restaurants to get the word out. But, Georgia had one named in The New York Times' newest list of "America's Best Restaurants." This was reportedly determined by a scouting team of 16 traveling the country and eating at various spots, excluding those on previous years' lists. The picks were not ranked.
New York Times names So. Fox one of the greatest restaurants in the U.S.
Representing Georgia on the list is So. Fox, a wine-based restaurant. Atlanta-based dining reporter Kim Severson said "Southern ingredients have never met the likes of Myles Moody." She detailed how Chef Moody and his wife, sommelier Rachael Pack, transformed a former neighborhood burger joint into a new lexicon with a "tight low-intervention wine light." But what about the food?
"Al dente zipper peas and a big dollop of caviar come bathed in dashi made from dried Appalachian beans called leather britches," Severson said. "Soft corn dumplings share a plate with Sungold tomatoes and blue crab with a flurry of bottarga. Fermented peaches from last summer hold marshmallow fluff infused with the marzipan-y taste of peach pits and a crown of peach granita and purple shiso."
