Chatham County Police Department patrol officers arrested a man accused of throwing a machete at a person walking their dog, according to a community announcement.
The incident occurred around 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday, Sept. 8 in the 400 block of Bonaventure Road. The victim told police he was walking his dog on a commercial property access route when a man nearby threatened to kill him and his dog before throwing a beer can and a machete at them.
The machete landed in the roadway, and no one was injured. Officers recovered the machete and took it into evidence at the scene, according to the announcement.
Man charged with felony aggravated assault
Officers arrested 66-year-old James Robert Carpenter and charged him with felony aggravated assault and felony terroristic threats and acts. Carpenter was
booked into the Chatham County Detention Center, according to the announcement.
