Goodfortune Market home to Savannah's Community Fridge
Finally, let’s support a dining project organized by Goodfortune Market, 2413 Waters Avenue, two blocks north of Victory Drive. The corner food market, which offers decadent bagel sandwiches and coffees, is now home to Savannah’s first street-legal refrigerator, the Community Fridge.
The local bodega worked with the City to ensure compliance with health standards and the fridge is now officially deemed a food resource location to redistribute food and mitigate food waste. Anyone can donate and anyone can receive. It’s open 24/7 for community members to take what they need or leave what they can. Goodfortune explains that it’s for “older folks waiting between checks, young people in college on student loans, children who are home for the summer, unhoused people, migrant people, working people…imagine what a difference it could make for a family to have an extra meal or two they don’t have to worry about.”
Goodfortune Market has launched a Go Fund Me campaign to make sure the Community Fridge is continuously stocked; Contribute via the link on the Instagram page @communityfridgestagram.
