The sound of tennis balls bounding off racquets and springing off asphalt is back in Forsyth Park.
The City of Savannah completed renovations of the historic park’s tennis courts last week, ending a three-month long closure to improve the courts. Construction on the courts began in June and was completed on Sept. 25.
The city’s renovations included new asphalt pavement and sport-specific surfacing for the courts. The work also updated the fencing and other site amenities at the location.
“Such upgrades are engineered to improve safety, playability, and overall user experience,” the press release said. "Additionally, the improvements deliver a durable, long-term solution for residents and visitors who rely on the facility.”

The renovations were done by Edwards Construction Group via a $363,081 city-council approved contract. The tennis courts are open daily from dawn until 9 p.m., with lighted hours from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m.
The renovated tennis courts followed renovation of Forsyth Park’s basketball courts in 2024. Those renovations included replacement of the playing surface, backboards and rims.
Both improvement projects were done through the city’s Recreation Reimagined initiative. The initiative launched in 2022 with the goal of rethinking how the city delivers recreation opportunities to the community, according to the initiative’s website.
