Water Mission, a Christian engineering nonprofit, will host its 10th annual Walk for Water in Beaufort County, with two chances for the community to make an impact—Sept. 19 in Port Royal and Oct. 3 in Bluffton.
Since 2017, the Beaufort County community has come together to raise awareness of the global water crisis and support Water Mission’s efforts to implement safe water solutions worldwide. The event is free to join, but walkers are asked to register online.
Roughly 2.1 billion people—nearly 25 % of the world’s population—lack access to clean, safe water for drinking, hygiene, and sanitation. The Walk for Water in Beaufort County simulates the daily reality of millions of people worldwide who walk miles each day to collect water that is often
unsafe. This burden primarily falls on women and children, stealing valuable time that could otherwise be spent on work and education.
Today, half of the world’s hospital beds are occupied by patients suffering from water-related illnesses. Globally, an estimated 1.4 million people die each year from preventable diseases caused by unsafe water, poor sanitation, and insufficient hygiene.
By joining the Walk for Water in Beaufort County, participants can fight the global water crisis and transform lives with every step. Each dollar raised will help provide sustainable, safe water solutions around the world, bringing health, hope, and opportunity to communities in need.
"For a decade, the Walk for Water in Beaufort County has grown dramatically, and we’re so excited for the 10th annual Walk this year,” said Water Mission Regional Walk Manager Krista Pack. "The Walk for Water is a unique opportunity for the Beaufort County community to rally together and transform lives. Walkers can register today to help us reach our goal of bringing clean, safe water to more than 2,000 people in need around the world."
There are two opportunities for the Beaufort community to join the Walk for Water. On Sept. 19, walkers will gather at Live Oaks Park in Port Royal. The Walk will begin at 9 a.m. On Oct. 3, walkers will gather at Bluffton United Methodist Church in Bluffton. The Walk will begin at 9 a.m.
Registration is available online at walkforwater.com/beaufort. Participants can join an existing Walk team or start their own. Registration is free, but participants can receive a Walk for Water t-shirt when they make a $25 donation. All donations will be matched up to $10,000.
