Georgia's summerlike heat may not be going anywhere anytimesoon.
Long-range forecastmodels suggest above-normal heat could continue into late September across much of north and central Georgia, according to the National Weather Service office in Atlanta.
The agency said persistent weather patterns are expected to keep temperatures elevated, with highs in the 90s likely continuing for most of north and central Georgia.

Why will Georgia stay so hot?
According to NWS Atlanta, the extended heat is tied to a persistent upper-level ridge and surface high-pressure pattern.
An upper-level ridge can promote sinking air and generally stable weather, while high pressure near the surface can contribute to continued warm
and mostly dry conditions.
NWS Atlanta said long-range forecast models are pointing toward the pattern continuing into the latter part of September.
That means Georgia's transition from summer heat to more typical fall temperatures could take some time.
When will Georgia cool down?
There is no specific statewide cooldown date in the long-range outlook. However, according to The Weather Channel's monthly predictions, Georgia will be at high's of low 70's by the end of October.
