A man was arrested Monday after authorities said he brandished an AR-style rifle during an encounter with a Georgia State Patrol trooper in Bryan County.
The incident began about 5:30 p.m. Friday, Oct. 23, when a trooper attempted to stop Cassius Gray for an alleged violation of Georgia’s hands-free law, according to a Bryan County Sheriff’s Office news release. Authorities said Gray repeatedly ignored commands to remain in his black Cadillac Escalade before getting out and claiming to be a federal agent.
Gray later fled to a residence on Georgia Highway 119, according to the sheriff’s office. Authorities said he opened the door at one point, brandished an AR-style rifle and inserted a round into the chamber. Additional law enforcement officers
responded, and a Bryan County Sheriff’s Office negotiator attempted to communicate with Gray.
Georgia State Patrol command staff ultimately decided to arrest Gray later, when authorities determined it could be done safely, according to the release. He was arrested without incident Monday.
Gray faces several charges, including aggravated assault on a public safety officer and felony obstruction of a law enforcement officer.
