Five teenagers were arrested over the weekend in connection to a late-July shooting near a Savannah park.
Savannah Police Department (SPD) officers responded to ShotSpotter reports of gunfire around 10 p.m. on July 25 in the 1400 block of Fellwood Drive.
Officers found two victims, each with a gunshot wound to their leg. Another victim was transported to Memorial Health University Medical Center before officers arrived to receive treatment for the gunshot wounds to his leg, arm and hip.
The shooting occurred hours after the Fellwood Homes Reunion community event held at Fellwood Park.
Ja’Quan Cooper, 17, Kaleb Detty, 18, Jamari Fields, 18, Keonte Williams, 19, were arrested by SPD on July 31 in connection to the shooting. Johann Arena-Vasquez, 18, was
also arrested a day later.
Arena-Vasquez, Cooper, Detty, Fields and Williams have each been charged with three counts of aggravated assault.
Savannah Mayor Van Johnson said at a Monday morning press conference that SPD received tips and utilized Flock license plate reader technology to conduct the investigation.
“We are also deeply grateful to the community for their support and partnership in keeping our city safe,” SPD Chief of Police Lenny Gunther said in a press conference. “The Savannah Police Department remains resolute in protecting everyone in our neighborhoods, and violent acts like this will not be tolerated in our city — period.”
