Georgia'sfall colors are coming, but not all at once.
If you're waiting for the mountainsto turn shades of red, orange and gold, North Georgia will likely get there first, while Central and South Georgia could see their best color later in the fall.

So, when should Georgians actually plan to see the leaves?

North Georgia could peak first
If you're looking for fall color in the mountains, late October into early November could be the sweet spot.
Explore Fall's current 2026 estimate shows Northeast Georgia reaching peak color by the end
of October, while much of the rest of North Georgia and portions of Central Georgia are expected to hav e moderate color.
Farther south, the map shows little to no color in many areas at that point.
That timing also lines up withTravel + Leisure's look at late-season fall foliage destinations.
The publication named Amicalola Falls State Park one of 10 U.S. destinations where fall foliage can continue into November.
What could Georgia look like by early November?
By around Nov. 5, Explore Fall's current forecast shows the fall-color picture changing significantly.
Much of Georgia is expected to have moderate color, while North Georgia could be seeing high or peak color.
Central Georgia is expected to be around moderate color, while much of South Georgia could still have relatively little color.
That means Georgians who miss the first wave of color in the mountains may still have time to catch the season farther south.
What about late November?
The current Explore Fall forecast shows North Georgia moving past peak by the end of November.
At the same time, portions of Central Georgia and areas farther south could be reaching their own peak or high-color stages.
Much of South Georgia is expected to still have significant color at that point.
In other words, there isn't necessarily one weekend when all of Georgia looks like fall.
The state's foliage season can stretch out as color progresses from higher elevations and northern parts of the state toward areas farther south.
So when should you plan a fall foliage trip?
For the North Georgia mountains, late October and early November are the key window to watch.
For Central Georgia, the best color could arrive later in November.
And if you're farther south, you may have to wait even longer.
