According to the sheriff's office, there was a group of students inside a school restroom and two of the students got into an argument at about 2:15 p.m. Wednesday.
The argument escalated into a physical fight, authorities said.
During the fight, one of the students pulled a gun and shot the other student, according to the sheriff.
A sheriff's
deputy assigned to the school found the injured student and provided medical assistance before the student was taken to a local hospital.
Authorities have not publicly released the student's identity or current condition.
Where was the suspect found?
According to Sheriff Moulton, the 14-year-old suspect left the school on foot after the shooting.
Authorities later found and arrested the student at about 3:20 p.m. on a playground slide in a nearby neighborhood, the sheriff said.
Although authorities have not released the suspect's identity, Sheriff Moulton referred to the suspect and the victim as males.
The investigation remains active, and officials said additional information could be released as the investigation continues.
What happened at the school?
The school was secured following the shooting, and students were eventually released through a controlled dismissal while law enforcement remained at the scene.
A Georgia State Patrol helicopter also landed on campus, according to the report.
Initial reports indicated that two students may have been victims. However, the sheriff later clarified that one student was injured by gunfire, while the other was the suspect.
Is Warner Robins High School canceled this week?
Warner Robins High School Principal Brett Wallace said in a message to parents and staff that students would remain out of school for the rest of the week.
Teachers were expected to return Friday, while counselors and additional student-support staff were scheduled to be available Friday and Monday for students and employees who need assistance processing the incident.
The school has an enrollment of approximately 1,800 students, according to the report. Authorities have not released additional details about potential charges against the 14-year-old suspect.
