Cannibalism is a crime in Idaho (and somehow only Idaho?) but is the nature of the beast in college football these days, sending the Big 12 football power rankings into disrepair.
BYU let the good times end in the Bounce House, losing to UCF in overtime. Texas Tech proved the doubters right and, honestly, good on the doubters for calling their bluff. And what the heck do we do with a Utah team that hasn't looked great but has a zero in the loss column?
Oh, and we have the first of possibly many coaching changes. What a week.
1. Utah (7-0, 4-0)
Last week: 6, def. Houston 21-13
This week: at Cincinnati (5-2, 2-2)
What to know: Eye test says there's no shot the Utes are the best team in the Big 12. Facts say they're still undefeated. For now.
2. BYU (6-1, 3-1)
Last week: 1, lost 39-31 to
UCF (OT)
This week: vs. Arizona State (4-3, 2-2)
What to know: We called the trap game loss to UCF last week. Our next call: BYU runs the table the rest of the regular season.
3. Arizona (6-1, 3-1)
Last week: 5, def. Iowa State 39-3
This week: at Texas Tech (6-1, 3-1)
What to know: Wildcats are one bad officiating call away from being undefeated. Seems to be a theme in the Big 12.
4. Houston (6-2, 3-2)
Last week: 3, lost 21-13 to Utah
This week: Open
What to know: Houston might be the most well-rounded team in the Big 12, but have ground to make up to make it to Arlington.
5. Oklahoma State (5-2, 3-1)
Last week: 4, def. Colorado 57-24
This week: at Iowa State (3-4, 1-3)
What to know: Cowboys mess around too much to be taken super serious at this point. Offense is great though.
6. Texas Tech (6-1, 3-1)
Last week: 2, lost 37-24 to Cincinnati
This week: vs. Arizona (6-1, 3-1)
What to know: Cincinnati gave the Red Raiders a hearty reality check. They're not very good and haven't been all season.
7. Cincinnati (5-2, 2-2)
Last week: 11, def. Texas Tech 37-24
This week: vs. Utah (7-0, 4-0)
What to know: Bearcats humbled the loudmouths from Lubbock. Can they double down and handle the undefeated Utes?
8. West Virginia (5-3, 2-3)
Last week: 10, def. TCU 24-20
This week: Open
What to know: Not even sure what to say about the Mountaineers. They're unpredictable, which makes them dangerous as heck.
9. UCF (4-3, 2-2)
Last week: 12, def. BYU 39-31 (OT)
This week: vs. Baylor (4-3, 2-2)
What to know: Scott Frost won and lost the BYU game about four times. But the Knights proved they're stingy against Houston and Oklahoma State and finally got the marquee win they needed.
10. Kansas State (4-3, 1-3)
Last week: 7, lost 28-17 to Arizona State
This week: at Colorado (2-4, 0-5)
What to know: K-State probably beats ASU with a healthy Avery Johnson, but we're not confident enough in that to give them the pass.
11. Iowa State (3-4, 1-3)
Last week: 8, lost 39-3 to Arizona
This week: at BYU (6-1, 3-1)
What to know: Nothing worse for the Cyclones than getting an angry BYU team after being pummeled by Noah Fifita's 5-foot-7 linebacker brother, Dash.
12. Kansas (3-4, 1-3)
Last week: 15, def. Baylor 25-24
This week: at TCU (3-4, 1-3)
What to know: The Jayhawks didn't deserve that win, and sometimes those are the greatest wins of all.
13. Baylor (4-3, 2-2)
Last week: 9, lost 25-24 to Kansas
This week: at UCF (4-3, 2-2)
What to know: Dave Aranda went from saving his job in September to getting fired before Halloween. You don't lose to Kansas and get to stay employed.
14. Arizona State (4-3, 2-2)
Last week: 14, def. Kansas State 28-17
This week: at BYU (6-1, 3-1)
What to know: Nobody was happier to see Avery Johnson in street clothes than the Arizona State defense that made two mediocre offenses look like juggernauts.
15. TCU (3-4, 1-3)
Last week: 13, lost 24-20 to West Virginia
This week: vs. Kansas (3-4, 1-3)
What to know: Finally cracked the 20-point threshold in Big 12 play, still lost at home. We may be done here in Fort Worth.
16. Colorado (2-5, 0-4)
Last week: 16, lost 57-24 to Oklahoma State
This week: vs. Kansas State (4-3, 1-3)
What to know: Going from a halftime lead on the road to losing by 33 is the most impressive feat of the week. Well done, Coach Prime.
