Here's a look at the best high school football games in the Lubbock area in Week 9.
GAME OF THE WEEK
Estacado (8-0, 2-0) at Lubbock-Cooper Liberty (7-0, 1-0)
7 p.m. Friday, Patriot Stadium
The later in the season two undefeated teams meet, the juicier the matchup. A Week 9 instance is pretty enticing.
The game has added intrigue for what's on the line. Both teams will face Levelland down the line, but Friday's winner has got to feel good about their district-championship prospects.
Such was the case last season, when Liberty knocked off Estacado 49-22 in the Matadors' only league loss.
That was the first district title in the Patriots' short history, and the team has been even more dominant in 2026. Liberty, ranked No. 4 in Class 4A Division II, have outscored opponents 354-100. The Patriots were off last week.
Estacado
enters off a 66-0 drubbing of Borger. It was the second shutout for the Matadors, who allow 19.4 points per game. Their offense has been humming at 51.4 points per game, which is third in 4A D-II.
Liberty isn't far behind at 50.6 points on average, so Friday will come down to defense.
