Tight end Terrance Carter Jr. is dealing with a sprained foot that sidelined him for the Texas Tech football team's 35-24 victory at Oregon State, Tech coach Joey McGuire said after the game on Saturday, Sept. 12.
Carter traveled to the game at Reser Stadium in Corvallis, but had an orthopedic boot on his right foot. McGuire said he hopes Carter's available for Tech's Big 12 opener this week against Houston. The Red Raiders (2-0) host the Cougars (2-0) at 7 p.m. Friday, Sept. 18, at Galaxy Stadium.
"I think we should know something by, like, Tuesday or Wednesday," McGuire said.
Since the beginning of last
season, Carter's caught 58 passes for 652 yards and 5 touchdowns. Freshman Matt Ludwig and seventh-year senior Jett Carpenter started at tight end against Oregon State. It was Ludwig's first start and he also scored his first touchdown on an 8-yard pass from Thomas Castellanos near the end of the game.
McGuire said he's optimistic Trey White will play for the first time this week. The first-team edge defender has missed the first two games with a knee injury he suffered late in preseason workouts.
"If he continues to progress the way he's progressing," McGuire said, "we've got a really good chance to get him back."
