Lubbock'sLos Hermanos Familia non-profit organization was thanking the community for support but still assessing its losses Saturday after announcing its trailer and some supplies were recovered after being stolen earlier in the week.
The non-profit organization announced Saturday that it picked up its recovered trailer from a local towing company after it had been found following a reported theft early Wednesday morning at a Lubbock storage unit.
The trailer contained more than 17 years’ worth of equipment and supplies collected for the organization's annual Vamos a Pescar, Let's go Fishing event, including more than 200 fishing poles, tents, games and other materials used to make this free event possible for area families.
"While the trailer
sustained damage to the sides and door where those responsible forced their way inside, and several key items are still missing, we are relieved that many of our supplies are still there," reads a statement Los Hermanos Familia posted on social media early Saturday. "The contents were ransacked, and we are still assessing what was taken and the extent of the damage."
The organization thanked Lubbock police, local media and residents who provided valuable information and leads, offered prayers and other support.
"We are still in disbelief that our trailer has been found and are overwhelmed by the outpouring of support from our community," the statement continues. "Although there is still work ahead to assess the damage and replace missing equipment, we are so incredibly thankful to have our trailer back.
"Thank you, Lubbock, for coming together and helping us bring it home!"
Los Hermanos Familia had shared surveillance camera images showing what appeared to be a light-colored pickup truck leaving with the trailer from the facility around 3:30 a.m. Oct. 21 at North Ash Avenue.
Other information about the circumstances of the theft and possible suspects was not immediately available as the investigation is ongoing.
